During This Really Rubbish Time

By Vikki Courtney

During this really rubbish time
I thought I’d write a little rhyme
About a club in London Town
To pass the time while in lockdown

A club which offers sports galore
Tennis, croquet and racketball
Lest not forget the squash building
For loos and shelter when raining

The club is busy every day
For church, for yoga and matchplay
Coaching with Toby or with Tous
Make use of bar and all its booze

Or join a quiz with Jeff ‘MC’
Wine tasting night, or Burns’ ceilidh
You’ll often see Dez round the club
(that’s when he’s not at local pub)

This was until this little thing
– its proper name Covid-19 –
Became an uninvited guest
Enough to make us all depressed

For now, at least, the club’s shut down
Stay home, save lives don’t be a clown
The only thing we can permit
are board meetings, “alas that’s…….too bad”

I’m bored, it sucks, I’m in a rut
Lockdown goes on, and on and, but….
We’ll meet again, we’ll play once more
Just have to get through months of bore

Boris has said we must obey
And then we can get back to play
The sports we love, have lots of fun
